A miner died Tuesday morning at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine in Carletonville, Gauteng.
Mine spokesman Sihle Maake said the miner died around 9:30 am after a seismic event.
"He was removed [from the mine] then all his vital organs were controlled and [it was] then realized that he had succumbed to his injuries."
The National Union of Miners (NUM) demanded "The NUM reiterates its call that it is necessary to amend the Mine Health and Safety Act so that those who are found responsible for deaths in the mine The mining industry must be arrested, prosecuted and sent to prison.The mining leaders deemed negligent must be held responsible for all accidents, "said the union in a statement.
