All Blacks coach Steve Hansen could become the manager of New Zealand rugby rugby after the 2019 World Cup.

Former Irish international Alan Quinlan said Out of the AM ball the radio show he had talked to Jeff Wilson and Justin Marshall, former All Blacks turned commentators, who knew perfectly well Hansen's future as a coach.

Quinlan suggested that Hansen be given the job of rugby coach at NZ Rugby, if he leaves his position as head coach of the All Blacks after the World Cup in Japan.

Quinlan added that Ian Foster, badistant to the All Blacks, should replace Hansen as head coach.

"What happened when Graham Henry left was that Hansen rose. So there is not a lot of change or structure in the group.

"It is thought that a similar scenario will occur with Ian Foster and he will play the role of head coach – with Hansen as director of rugby."

Hansen is expected to announce his future on December 17 in Christchurch.
