Apple in confrontation with its customers

JOHANNESBURG – Apple is in a showdown with its customers as iPhone users want to sue the company for monopolizing the Apple app store.

Users complain that Apple is preventing them from buying software from third-party markets.

This inflates prices on the App Store, Apple levies a commission of 30% on all sales.

Apple has argued that its customers can not pursue it because they are not its direct buyers.

The Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling by the end of June on whether iPhone owners can or can not present such a case.

An antitrust lawsuit could open the door to further litigation by consumers.

This could affect other companies such as Google and Amazon, which also operate their own application markets.
