Cape Town – Munster in bulk Arno Botha he says and CJ Stander have put aside past differences.
Botha, 27, who has played two trials for the Springboks in 2013, recently joined the Irish club of the London Irish team.
Botha and Stander, number 8 South African, now part of the Irish test team, have climbed the ladder of the Bulls in South Africa.
In an interview with an Irish publication, Le42Botha admitted that Stander and he were not always the best friends in the world, but that has changed since they arrived in Munster.
"We played in 2011 at the Currie Cup and for the U20, 21 years old and won a trophy together. We were not really good friends at the time, but we are now. We talk and joke a lot about it.
"I do not know if you can say that he was unlucky (leaving the Bulls), because it's obviously not so unlucky to play for Ireland now, but it worked well for him, "said Botha.
Botha was being tipped for a promising Springbok career before knee injuries prevented him from playing for long periods.
He is looking to make the most of his one-year contract at Munster but has not lost hope of playing for the Springboks.
"For me, the goal is to stay in Europe. I know that if I'm good enough, I can still be part of the South African team and this team. But again, we must respect the players who stay (at home).
"I know that Rbadie (Erasmus, Springbok coach) has worked with many of these guys over the course of his career, and obviously he has a plan he wants to make. Of course, if I can get Europe out of Europe, it will be the perfect world, "added Botha.
Stander, meanwhile, became the mainstay of Munster, who is coached by former Springbok badistant Johann van Graan.
Stander said he was deemed too small to be No. 8 at the Bulls and decided to leave for Ireland in 2012.
The 28-year-old has played 29 tests since his debut in Ireland in 2016.
