The arrest warrant of Jaliya Wickremasuriya, former ambbadador of Sri Lanka to the United States, was extended Tuesday by the magistrate of the Colombo court.

Jaliya Wickramasuriya was Sri Lanka's ambbadador to Washington from July 2008 to May 2014 by the Sri Lanka Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on the alleged misuse of public spending. It is alleged that there were irregularities in the purchase of a building to house the Sri Lankan Embbady in Washington DC.

He is also charged with accepting a "commission" of US $ 332,000.

The defense alleges that Mr. Wickremasuriya is not allowed to leave the United States pending further investigation against him, after his diplomatic immunity has been revoked
