Sony has filed a patent in South Korea for a new technology called "electronic game cartridge". Although we do not have much information on how this new technology works, many are wondering if this could indicate that the PlayStation 5 could be a more portable console or even that Sony could use a new Vita .
The patent mentions that the cartridge would be metal and synthetic resin. One image seems to suggest that the cartridge would connect to the console via a port at the bottom, but beyond that, nothing else is revealed.
We now know that Sony has shown interest in a more portable console, similar to the popular Nintendo Switch, thanks to a comment from John Kodera, Sony, in May this year:
"Rather than separating wearable games from consoles, it is necessary to keep thinking (wearable games) as a method of offering more gaming experiences."
It is important to note that not all patents see the light of day because many of these products never reach the commercial stage or even the development.
It seems that Sony is planning to surprise players when it finally announces its next console. Sony is expected to unveil its PlayStation 5 by the end of next year, but so far Sony has mostly clogged its lips.
