Eskom announced that Phase 1 rotational shedding would take place from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm today.
The breakdowns result from the increase in the number of production plants, both for planned maintenance work and for unforeseen breakdowns, according to their website.

According to Eskom, the Stage 1 load reduction requires an energy saving of 1,000 MW across the country, and asked customers to turn off the geysers and appliances and non-essential lighting fixtures.
Earlier this month, Eskom warned that the risk of breakdowns increased, due to a significant drop in coal in various plants.
