Ford unveils a more affordable EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport occupies a prominent place in the sales charts of the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment, after announcing a facelift for this model in June.

The automotive group has introduced a new entry-level gasoline model, the 1.5 Ti-VCT Ambiente.

The 1.5 Ti-VCT Ambiente is the most affordable offering, followed by the 1.5 TDCi Ambiente, which shares an identical level of standard specifications, as well as the five-speed manual transmission.

The new addition to the EcoSport range is powered by a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT petrol engine that recently debuted in the new Ford Figo range.

It also relies on a variable camshaft independent timing (Ti-VCT) for the four-valve engine to provide improved downhill torque as well as maximum power. The installation of a two-stage variable oil pump further enhances efficiency while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The 1.5 Ti-VCT engine is credited with a maximum power of 92 kW and a maximum torque of 170 Nm, said Ford.

"Although the new EcoSport 1.5 Ambiente is positioned as the entry-level model of the range, it is equipped with an exceptional level of standard functionality," he said. The safety package includes electronic stability control, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, rear parking sensors and hand-activated "Follow Me Home" lights.

Electric windows are installed everywhere, a remote central locking, a perimeter alarm, side heated mirrors, air conditioning and a kit for preparing the hitch for easy mounting of the hitch option.
