Google has removed anti-malware applications from the Play Store, but not before downloading about 560,000 times.
The 13 Android apps included simulations of driving cars and trucks and were listed by one developer, Luiz Pinto.
NDTV Gadgets reports that the apps, which appeared to be games, had no noticeable functionality and were stuck at launch.
The apps hid in the handset after installing an additional APK, and then were able to install malicious software.
To make matters worse, two of the apps were in the Play Store.
