Rapid thrower Anrich Nortje of Cape Town Blitz has been ruled out of the rest of the Mzansi Super League for an ankle injury that will require surgery.
"Anrich has several small pieces of avulsed bone from the lower end of the lateral side of the talus in the left ankle," said Shane Jabaar, a physiotherapist at Cape Town Blitz. "He has badociated bone edema and the surgery involves removing the fragments by arthroscopy."
Nortje, 25, had an immediate league impact with eight goals in three games, including Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks, averaging 10.4. His methods were even more catchy than his tricks, Nortje upsetting the usual balance between bat and ball in T20 cricket with speed and swing, attacking the stumps at speeds of up to 150 km / h.
"Unfortunately, I had to make the decision to no longer participate in the Super League Mzansi," Nortje said. "I had to leave the team after the game dropped against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and I will have surgery on Friday to remove a small piece of bone that broke."
Nortje's performances will not have been missed by the national team's radar, especially with the opening of space in the Protea bowling attack after Lungi Ngidi's knee injury put him out of action for three months. For the moment, Nortje's injury seems to have put him aside, but his Cape Town Blitz coach, Ashwell Prince, believes he has a bright future.
"It's really unfortunate that the injury happened at this point in his career," said Prince. "He is definitely a future for the Proteas and South Africa has a lot to expect from this young man.I have no doubt that he will continue to play successfully at the Test Match level."
"Everyone in Cape Town was really looking forward to seeing the incredible pace that Anrich could generate, like in the first warm-up match against Paarl Rocks, where he managed to get the ball to 150 – maybe higher. all the Capetonians were really excited by his potential in the tournament and by the little time he spent with us, he did not disappoint.
"We simply hope that the process will not be rushed and that the young man will have the opportunity to recover fully before starting again, and we are certainly looking forward to seeing him again at Cape Town Blitz next year."
Nortje will be replaced by Nandre Burger, a costly left arm of the Highveld Lions. While he only played three games before his injury, Nortje congratulated the MSL for the visibility it had already received. Nortje had been part of the South African tour in July in South Africa and had started the national season with 24 wickets in five games for Warriors, but it was only after tearing up the national TV channel. .
"This tournament is great for getting some visibility, it's something we do not get at the national level and I have not heard of such a craze around me or any other player, "said Nortje. "In less than two weeks, things have changed, so it's very nice to have the necessary visibility and broadcast the games around the world."
Nortje played alongside Dale Steyn in Cape Town Blitz XI and hopes to follow suit. "With this tournament, you play with international players," Nortje said. "Learning from them, listening to them and working with them, is something that can not be taken for granted because we do not often see the Proteas – it's an amazing experience to live in." this environment.
"My ultimate goal is to play for the Proteas.I still remember seeing Mornantau Hayward, also from Uitenhage.Of course I now have to play with my model, Dale Steyn. It is certainly I hope that this is something that I can achieve in the next few years and that I look forward to the day when I will be able to sing the national anthem and wear green and green. any size would be a dream come true. "
Nortje is not the only recent injury in the MSL. Australian Michael Klinger was also excluded from the rest of the campaign in the league after suffering a back injury against the Cape Town Blitz last Sunday. David Wiese joined Paarl's team in replacement.
