JOHANNESBURG – The city of Johannesburg has asked residents to help law enforcement deal with illegal miners who are seriously threatening several important sites.

The city's infrastructure protection unit worries zama zamas that explode just meters away from a highly flammable gas.

She claims that the FNB stadium, sections of Soweto and the M1 and M2 motorways are under threat.

According to Unit Chief Conel Mackay, if illegal miners were to hit a fuel line, anything within 300 meters would be cremated.

"We are about 800 people with severe burns and depending on the weather of the day because, if the winds were strong, the fire could be transported elsewhere. So it's very serious.
