Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said Kawhi Leonard "was not a leader" in his last season in San Antonio.
Leonard "was a great player," but Manu Ginobili and Patty Mills led the way, according to Pop.

Kawhi only played nine games last season with the Spurs while he was injured in the quadriceps before being traded to the Toronto Raptors.

Popovich was asked about the importance of Patty Mills' leadership instead of Leonard's job and the departure of longtime stars Tony Parker (independent agency) and Manu Ginobili (retired).
"Kawhi was an excellent player, but it was not a leader or anything," said Popovich.
"Manu and Patty were the leaders. Kawhi's talent will always be missed, but that leadership was not his business at that time. This may happen as he progresses, but Manu and Patty played that role last year, and LaMarcus (Aldridge) has also come a long way in this regard. "
