The new 992-generation Porsche 911 was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Show in Los Angeles, with more powerful versions of the brand's six-cylinder turbocharged engines and new technology.
While Porsche claims that its eighth generation 911 displays a "much more muscular look," the exterior styling changes are – as expected – quite scalable. Even so, the builder claims that the wheel housings are "much wider" (covering the 20-inch front and rear alloys), while the rear has now the same width on all models.
At the front, the bodywork has a width of about 45 mm and flush door handles have been added. At the front, you will also find new LED headlights, while the rear has a "much wider" rear wing with variable positions and a monobloc light bar. Outside the front and rear sections, all of the outer skin is now aluminum.
The Zuffenhausen-based brand has also added various chbadis updates and support systems under the skin. A new "wet mode" has also been introduced (detecting the presence of water on the road, "conditioning" the control systems and warning the driver), as well as Night Vision Assist (with a thermal camera).
In addition, the next generation of 3.0-liter turbo-charged flat six-cylinder engines has been "perfected" to produce more punch in the S models. The automaker claims that the efficiency has been improved through a process of Improved injection and a new configuration of turbochargers and charge air cooling system. And power is now provided via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (apparently, a manual option will eventually be offered, too).
The 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S now produce 331 kW each, an increase of 22 kW over previous models. It takes 3.7 seconds for the rear-wheel-drive coupe to reach 100 km / h, while the four-wheel-drive model accelerates by a tenth faster (specifying that the optional Sport Chrono Package will earn you 0 , 2 additional seconds each time). The new 911 Carrera S rises to 308 km / h, while the 4S lack of breath at 306 km / h.
Inside, you'll find two frameless free-form screens. The center screen measures 10.9 inches and is located above a five-button switch allowing direct access to the vehicle's main functions.
