On Christmas Day 2013, the Duchess bent over to give her grandmother a double kiss after Sandringham's religious service.
Such an intimate act with the head of the monarchy is reserved for few people, mainly high-ranking royal members.
The last kiss took place in front of several cameras during an official engagement, signaling that the royal family wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to send a message, according to Ms. Elser.
She said, "As with everything the royal family does, symbolism and the image are of paramount importance. The Windsor clan usually greets his royal grandmother when he arrives in Balmoral.
"But kissing him with a phalanx of cameras and watching the press sends a very direct and punchy message: the queen thinks Kate does an amazing job. Two inches up. Ten diadems out of 10. "
According to the Royal Family's website, there is "no obligatory behavior when meeting with the queen or a member of the royal family," but it describes the traditional ways of greeting the monarch.

The kiss comes just a few weeks after the queen has awarded Kate a large cross of the order of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) – the highest distinction that she can bestow.
The Duchess beamed as she showed the Queen and the Duke of Cambridge her Back to Nature Garden at the world-famous show in West London.
Earlier this week, Kate and William brought five-year-old Prince George, four-year-old Princess Charlotte, and thirteen-year-old Prince Louis into the plot their mother had planned.
Kate has long enjoyed the outdoors and wants to use her platform to encourage families to spend time outdoors in a natural setting.
