Durban – To help fight the scourge of HIV and AIDS, South African Breweries will donate 1.5 million condoms to taverns and bottle shops across Gauteng for World AIDS Day on Saturday.

One million male condoms and 500,000 female condoms will be delivered to approximately 2,500 licensed taverns and bottle shops.

Since 2010, SAB has helped distribute nearly 19 million condoms to approximately 15,000 local taverns licensed in South Africa.

"SAB's commitment to social change in South African communities aligns with the government's goal of reducing the impact of HIV and AIDS in the country.

"It makes perfect sense that we contribute to ongoing work to achieve this goal," said Zoleka Lisa, Director, Business Affairs, SAB.

According to the John Stover study (founder and president of the Futures Institute, USA), 19 million condoms can help prevent about 38,000 new cases of HIV infection and AIDS.

The study further baderts that for every 500 condoms distributed, at least one HIV infection and AIDS is avoided.
