Samsung has announced that it will launch support for Samsung compatible smart watches on its Samsung Pay platform.

Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg, Philip Henning, Samsung Pay project manager, said that Samsung Pay users would be able to pay for their purchases with their Samsung smartwatch in the near future .

"We will launch this new feature very soon," Henning said.

This additional support for portable payments results from a recent overhaul of the Samsung Pay app and its user interface.

Paying with a Samsung smart watch only supports NFC technology, which means you will not be able to pay on payment terminals that do not support contactless payments.

The following Samsung mobile devices will be supported on the Samsung Pay platform:

  • Samsung Gear S3 Clbadic
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch
  • Samsung Gear S3 Frontier
  • Samsung Gear Sport

To use Samsung Pay on their smartwatch, users do not need to connect their laptops to their smartphones: they can start Samsung Pay on their watch by holding down the back button for a second and a half.

After the Samsung Pay app, smartwatch users can select their card to complete their purchase.

For added security, the Samsung Pay app on the smartwatch asks the user to enter a PIN if it detects that the contact has been broken between the watch and the wearer's body.

User interface changes and built-in payments to the application

Henning added that Samsung Pay's redesigned user interface offers improved accessibility, adding dedicated Pay & Home buttons and changing the virtual map's orientation in the application, from vertical to horizontal. .

He also said that Samsung's negotiations with South African banks were progressing and that support for more banks would soon be added to the demand.

Samsung Pay now also supports in-app payments, he added.

This allows users to make and verify online purchases directly from the Samsung Pay app, although this feature is exclusive to purchases made from the Galaxy App Store at the moment.
