The Springbok team hotel had to be evacuated on the eve of its test against Wales after a suspicious package was discovered in the player's laundry.

According to Daily mail, the package was found hidden between a player's laundry by a hotel staff member while the Boks were racing to their captain on Friday.

The police were called and immediately evacuated all the floors above and below the ground in question, before going to the Millennium Stadium to interrogate the Boks.

Three players, including Jesse Kriel, were brought back to the hotel and their rooms were searched when a Burka outfit was found, which sparked new suspicions.

It was later revealed that the suspect device was a stopwatch and that the Burka belonged to Kriel, who had bought the outfit after Saturday night's match.

The three players and the Springbok team were notified by the police, but they escaped any further sanction.

The Boks declined to comment, but the Hilton hotel confirmed the incident in a statement.

"On Friday, November 23, at 2 pm, a member of our cleaning crew discovered a suspicious package in one of the bedrooms. She informed the hotel management and, in accordance with our protocol, we evacuated the rooms above and below the floor in question and immediately contacted the police.

"They investigated quickly and thankfully, they quickly gave the green light. The safety of our customers is naturally of paramount importance, but we apologize for any inconvenience and we thank the South Wales Police for their prompt response. "
