The installation of Von Wong Art sensitizes to single-use plastic

Conceptual photographer Benjamin Von Wong shared on his blog the details of his latest project. It is an artistic installation made from 168,000 plastic straws and titled "The Sharing of the Plastic Sea". The idea behind this work is to draw attention to the "plastic truck flowing into the ocean every 60 seconds" – and to point out that a small step like that of giving up a Plastic straw when done on a large scale can make all the difference – by stopping the "straw straw", as Von Wong says.

Of course, Von Wong did not go buy the straws for the project, even though it would have cost only $ 10 per 100,000 of them. He chose the hardest route, working with Zero Waste Saigon, Starbucks Vietnam and hundreds of volunteers to collect used straw for six months. A local builder then helped build the frame that would support the "waves" of plastic. In order to generate maximum notoriety, the facility was located in the shopping center Estella Place in Ho Chi Minh City.

Von Wong explains on his blog that "the separation of the plastic sea" is not just about straw. "This is a first step towards attention to the plastic epidemic that threatens the oceans we rely on."
