MILWAUKEE – Oprah Winfrey's mother, Vernita Lee, pbaded away at the age of 83. A spokeswoman for Winfrey on Monday issued a statement that Ms. Lee died at her home in Milwaukee on November 22.
The spokeswoman said that a private funeral had taken place. No other details have been provided.
Lee was a teenager when she gave birth to Winfrey, Mississippi in 1954. They moved to Milwaukee at the age of 6.
Lee was introduced in 1990 for the makeover of "The Oprah Winfrey Show".
Lee also leaves another daughter, Patricia Amanda, and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey, and a daughter, Patricia.
