- The Find X smartphone, from the Chinese electronics manufacturer Oppo, is one of the most futuristic and aesthetic smartphones ever seen.
- Unlike popular phones such as the iPhone XS, the Oppo Find X true Edge-to-edge display, without cut-out "notch" for the front camera.
- Other smartphone makers might be inspired by the design of the Oppo Find X.
Smartphones are getting better in terms of performance and design. But in this last category, there may be no better phone than Find X.
The Find X is manufactured by the Chinese electronics manufacturer Oppo, one of the world's most popular smartphone manufacturers: it was the first Chinese brand in 2016, according to IDC. Oppo unveiled the Find X in June and launched many waves online thanks to its stunning design.
The Find X looks like Apple's iPhone XS, but it features thinner frames or borders around the screen and, more specifically, does not include a "notch" like that of the iPhone. The Find X has a real screen, and Oppo has come up with a clever system to hide the camera when it's not in use. It's certainly one of the most futuristic phones we've ever seen.
The photos below are courtesy of YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy, who managed to get his hands on Find X and filmed it in plain sight.
First, take a look at this thing. It's beautiful.
The Find X includes a 6.4-inch OLED screen manufactured by Samsung, making it the world's best smartphone screens. Samsung displays are featured on iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S and Note phones.
While the front of the phone looks like an iPhone X, the back is tilted and rounded in the manner of a Galaxy S9.
The Oppo Find X is available in two different colors: "burgundy red" and "ice blue".
Oppo explained that it used a "multiform color process" to create a gradient effect on the backs of phones. Thus, from different angles, they shine almost like a gemstone.
Like the iPhone X, the Oppo Find X has windows on the front and back and metal between the two.
However, one of the coolest and most innovative aspects of the Oppo Find X is the way it hides its front and rear cameras.
This GIF shows how Oppo did it.
Oppo calls these "stealth cameras", which only appear when you need them – to unlock the phone or take pictures. A physical mechanism slides the cameras out of the phone and brings them back when you're done.
The front camera system is extremely similar to last year's iPhone X, with an illuminator, a point projector and an infrared camera capturing 3D data for a facial recognition system that unlocks the camera. phone.
Here's this mechanism again in action – really cool.
The cameras themselves are of excellent quality. The front camera measures 25 megapixels, while the rear camera has two 20 megapixel and 16 megapixel lenses.
In terms of specifications, the Oppo Find X presents all the usual suspects of a 2018 Android phone: a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, a huge battery, a dual SIM card system and a fast charge.
It runs on Android – 8.1 Pie – but the Oppo software, called "ColorOS", gives the phone the impression of being more like an iPhone. So many elements, like the camera interface …
… the home screen …
… and even all the gestures, such as finding the multitasking tray, seem to come from the iPhone.
Nevertheless, from a visual point of view, Oppo may have invented the most beautiful smartphone we have ever seen.
Although the phone clearly inspired the iPhone X from last year, Oppo seems to have perfected Apple's design by offering a smartphone that really looks like a homogeneous glbad slab and by removing the elements that hinder the user experience, namely the top of the screen and the thicker frames around the OLED screen.
Oppo's Find X features a larger screen that is not interrupted by the camera's notch, as the company has discovered an innovative way to hide the camera until it reaches the end of the day. That you really need it. The front screen is beautiful and Oppo has solved the problem by ordering its screens at Samsung to ensure quality. But Oppo also deserves credit for the back of the phone, because the unique color tones of Find X certainly make it stand out. More and more smartphone makers should be experimenting with colors and gradients like Oppo, because sparkling colors will certainly turn heads.
Overall, Oppo seems to have built an excellent phone. The way it works is another story, because we have not gotten hold of this device yet, but from a design point of view, the Find X on all screens is pretty close to the ideal phone.
