McLaren may have announced the appointment of James Key as Technical Director. However, Toro Rosso has not yet entered into a long-term contract with the Faenza team.
On Thursday, McLaren confirmed that Key would travel to Woking after a gardening period from his job at Toro Rosso.
The latter, however, do not seem to be too important to hand over their technical director.
"James has a valid long-term contract with Toro Rosso," said team director Franz Tost at Autosport
"And that's all I can say about it There is nothing more to say. "
Toro Rosso's comments led to the speculation that the Red Bull junior team was trying to negotiate with Autosport claiming that Lando Norris could land for the championship next year.
Asked that Toro Rosso is negotiating the release of Key with McLaren, Tost replied, "I think they will come to us."
"I have no reason to argue with them, because we have a contract.Everything has been said."
The boss of the team, however, was Quick to cancel the suggestions that Toro Rosso would lose if they lost Key to McLaren.
"Of course, that does not support us, this whole story about James," he said. "It's clear"
"But the team on the technical side is pretty strong, and there's a good vision of what we have to do with all this."
"But we just need some time, I hope we will make some improvements in the second half of the season, and if they work as expected, I hope we can fill the gap. away once more. "
