ZTE has announced the end of a voice call and the provision of an Internet connection and WeChat via 5G mobile technology.

The international telecommunications company said the success marked an important step in the commercial use of 5G.

In April 2018, ZTE introduced the first 5G call using the 3GPP R15 global standard.

The call was completed with a ZTE smartphone and a ZTE CPE device via a simulation system in its Shanghai R & D center in late October 2018.

The 5G Internet connection and WeChat was provided via the same simulation system.

Most 5G smartphones currently support the lower 6 GHz frequency band, while ZTE has stated that its solution supports full coverage of frequencies below 6 GHz at millimeter frequencies.

ZTE is expected to launch its first commercial 5G smartphone in the first half of 2019, after announcing that it will unveil a 5G smartphone and an experimental 5G CPE by the end of 2018.

The company said the data tests of its 5G smartphone continued to progress, with new tests scheduled for December 2018.
