After more than 5 decades, Macy’s Priscilla the Pink Pig retires – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA – Atlanta is losing some of its beloved holiday magic this season.

Macy’s Priscilla the Pink Pig, who has been an Atlanta holiday tradition for over 50 years, will hang up her bow and long lashes and retire, the store said Thursday.

Priscilla announced her retirement in a statement to her fans.

“Dear Atlanteans, for over 50 years I have had a memorable journey with many generations of Atlantians who know that my arrival at Macy’s Lenox Square marks the start of the holiday season,” wrote Priscilla. “I cherish the friends that I have met near and far and I am proud of the iconic holiday tradition that I have become.”

The ride had been on hiatus since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ride began as a monorail along the ceiling of the Rich Department Store in 1953. The ride was then moved to the roof of the store and made a brief stint at Egleston Hospital.

In 2003, the pig moved to Lenox Square in the upper level parking lot near Macy’s. The train was passing through a life-size storybook starring Priscilla and her friends.

“In my absence, I hope the people of Atlanta continue to believe in the magic of the holiday season and enjoy the remaining iconic tradition of Macy’s, Macy’s Big Atlanta Tree, shining brightly. at the top of Lenox Square, ”Priscilla wrote.

Macy’s honors Priscilla with a $ 20,000 donation to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
