AG Barr is doing his job on two key calls: Boring Democrats and Trump

Few of the Trump administration figures have been vilified by the left as much as Attorney General Bill Barr, but he’s a full-fledged professional – as his last two moves prove.

Barr revealed on Tuesday that he made John Durham, the former US attorney he previously commissioned to investigate the origins of the FBI “Russiagate” investigation, a special advocate. This ensures that President Joe Biden cannot easily end the Justice Department’s serious abuse investigation.

The GA took the nomination on October 19, but remained silent so as not to be seen as interfering with the election. He said on Tuesday that he had chosen to use “the same rule that applied to Bob Mueller, to give Durham and his team the assurance that they would be able to complete their work no matter what. election result ”.

Under this regulation, a special advocate can only be dismissed for specific reasons, such as failure to perform duties, misconduct or conflict of interest. Biden’s GA will not be able to stop the probe without a serious reaction.

The Barr directive authorizes Durham to “investigate whether a federal official, employee or other person or entity has violated the law in connection with intelligence, counterintelligence or law enforcement activities directed against them. 2016 presidential campaigns, individuals associated with those campaigns, and individuals associated with the administration of President Donald J. Trump, including, but not limited to, Hurricane Crossfire and the Special Advocate investigation Robert S. Mueller, III.

The GA also provided an update on Durham’s work: its focus was confined to the conduct of FBI agents who worked on Crossfire Hurricane, the Trump-Russia investigation which began in July 2016 and did not ended only in March 2019, when Mueller reported that he had found no evidence of collusion.

But there is a lot of evidence of misconduct – among FBI investigators. A scathing report from Michael Horowitz, the Inspector General of Justice, documented part of it.

• Agents relied heavily on the discredited Steele dossier, full of fabricated rumors, to obtain warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.

• Agents lied to the Foreign Intelligence Review Court to secure multiple warrants to monitor campaign adviser Carter Page – which they knew to be a CIA asset, not a Russian agent.

Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page and Peter Strzok have been fired and Durham has handed down a conviction so far: FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith has pleaded guilty to forging a document sent to FISA court.

Democrats bawl that Barr simply make the president’s offer, but his other announcement shows he’s no toad: he has steadfastly refused to push the narrative of Trump’s stolen election. FBI agents and US lawyers have looked into several complaints, he said, but: “To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”

When Barr allowed prosecutors to investigate these complaints weeks ago, Biden’s team called it a “clumsy and cynical partisan political ploy.” In fact, Barr was just doing his job – and, as always, doing it with professionalism and class.
