Critics and fans love Avengers: End of the game. The film is certified 95% Fresh and earned $ 1.2 billion at the global box office on its first weekend. It could very well become the greatest movie of all time – and one of the most loved ones. The key to its success? Critics say that everything is to give the MCU faithful what they want. Eric Eisenberg from Cinema Blend was typical in his assessment, calling End of Game, "A wonderful gift to all those who have spent the past ten years and more to get emotionally involved in the lives and adventures of these characters." stacked with "f – k yeah" moments and delights, the best of which recall the first films of the franchise.
And one of these movies is more important than any other.
So, listen to us: End of Game owes its success to this under-sung hero of the MCU, Avengers: the era of Ultron. Although one of the least popular entries of the MCU and the lowest rated Avengers flip the Tomatometer to 75% (which is still not bad!) Ultron deserves credit as the foundation on which the entire second half of the MCU was built. And we're about to explain to ourselves why, by breaking down the story beats and relationships that Ultron established and that End of Game would be so helpful – so be forewarned if you have not seen End of Game, Ultron, or both.
Major spoilers for Avengers: End of the game to follow.
Hulk takes control on both sides? He started with Ultron.

Around the time of Age of UltronMarvel still hoped to reach an agreement with Hulk and launch a series of films exclusively devoted to Hulk. Universal still held the rights to the character for all stand-alone films, but behind the scenes there were talks. When it became apparent that an agreement was not going to be reached, Marvel broadcast the events planned for an independent Hulk movie around the world. Avengers: the era of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, and the War of Infinity two parts. That's right, the seeds of the fantastic "Hipster Hulk" reward in End of Game have been sewn Ultron. Think again about the Hulk banner / Ultron; he is sometimes retained by the team to make sure he does not do too much damage. Then, after a gesture of Scarlet Witch's finger, he wreaks havoc. All along UltronBanner is still wondering if the team needs a "green code". He knows that the Hulk weapon is a powerful weapon, but he is terrified of not having control. By End of Game, we finally saw the complete character come out of this fight in Ultron, Hulk taking over completely Thor: Ragnarok, the inability of Banner to summon the green type in Avengers: war in the infinite, to the eventual fusion of Hulk's force and Bruce's spirit in the new film. (The last incarnation is a scenario game that first appeared in The incredible Hulk # 377, in which Banner finally controls both the monster and his mind – adding hipster glasses with a huge cardigan is simply a nice bonus.)
The beginning of a beautiful and crucial relationship: Wanda and Vision, a.k.a. WandaVision.
(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)
The WandaVision relationship, along with their powers, would become crucial for the MCU and especially for the Infinity Saga. It is also at the heart of two of the greatest moments of the saga: the death of Vision en War of Infinity that breaks our hearts and this is Wanda's moment of revenge and power in End of Game it gives us such a sensation. And it all started with Ultron. From his first meeting with Vision in Age of UltronWanda is attracted to his spirit; Even when we still did not know whether he was good or naughty, his first words about it were, "I can read it … in his mind." Ultron introduces Wanda and his brother to his creation in the final stages of its completion and even before. his "birth" shouted to him the spirit of Vision. You talk about a cute-meet.
When we finally discover Thanos' master plan to collect all the Infinity stones, we quickly realize that Vision will be in danger. The mental stone is at the origin of his powers – it is literally fused with the technical matter of which Shuri spoke in War of Infinity. This connection establishes what could be the ultimate and most painful sacrifice of the Infinity saga: Killing Vision in War of Infinity as one last effort to thwart Thanos turns out to be a useless and heartbreaking effort – with a twist of the Infinity glove, everything is undone. We watched them fall in love, starting in UltronAnd witnessed their tragic end War of infinity. When she appears in End of Game, summoning his powers with fury, it's a completely satisfying book Ultron has begun.
Who is worthy? PERFECT CONFIGURATION FOR THE MOMENT OF THE GREAT HAMMER OF CAP.
In one of the best scenes of Old Ultron, the Avengers pal around with some drinks at a party. What is played as a funny humorous pause, with the different limbs trying to lift Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, is actually one of the greatest moments of End of Game. Iron Man, War Machine, Hawkeye and, in a comical manner, Bruce Banner all try to lift the hammer and show themselves worthy. None succeed, but for a brief moment, Captain America shoots Mjölnir and he trembles. The movement erases a confident smile from Thor's face and indicates that Steve Rogers might one day be holding up the hammer. So it's not a surprise in the final of End of Game to see who raises Mjölnir. Thor even exclaims: "I knew it!" (This is actually another direct draw of the comic: Captain America is one of the few worthy of this kind to brandish the hammer wrought in the heart of a dying star – we continue to have goosebumps just thinking about that.)
Clint Barton, Hawkeye and the farm.
according to Ultron Whedon, there were several creative differences between him and Marvel Studios when filming Age of Ultronmore controversial than the farm trip debate to meet Clint's family. The Marvel brass apparently did not want to give Hawkeye a historic past – after seeing End of Gamewe are thankful they lost on this one. Ronin, the broken vigilante, singularly focused, that Hawkeye becomes in End of Game does not have the same resonance if we did not spend time with his family. (And about this Opening scene ?!) The device of the farm also serves to establish the proximity between Natasha and Hawkeye, as in Ultron we learn that she is the only one to have a prior knowledge of the farm and her family life. These quiet moments raise the emotional stakes of the struggle we see between Clint and Natasha in End of Gameas they struggle to know who will sacrifice for the stone of soul. Without the Ultron configuration, these issues would not be so high.
Tony vs Cape: A civil war begins.
Civil war maybe the first battle between the Avengers, but some quick and silent shots were fired Ultron. L & # 39; argument on the farm at which Steve blames Tony for creating, and especially for not telling him about Ultron, is an example that many will report at the beginning of their fracturing. Then there's the physical fight between Captain America and Iron Man that happens later in Ultron, while Tony is trying to finish his 'Vision'. Steve and Tony are out of breath just before Thor uses the lighting to finally give birth to Vision. The Russo brothers told us in our extended interview that the Avengers had failed Avengers: war in the infinite because they were divided, and the cracks of this fatal fracture began to appear in Ultron. Even direct quotes from Age of Ultron reappear in End of Game Tony repeating his warning: "We are going to lose" – adding Steve's answer to "We are losing together" is hardly comforting. This broken version of Tony, tearing his heart, was perhaps even more difficult to watch than his heroic end.
Tony, always trying to get ahead of things.

It starts and it stops with Tony. The whole plot of Ultron comes from a driving force: Tony's fear of hope for next year, which is trying to cancel the Earth. "That, up there," he says, pointing to the sky and referring to the extraterrestrial invasion of New York. "It's the final phase." And that was, in every sense of the word. Thanos comes to destroy the earth, and it is this threat that the Avengers were created to stop. Tony, creating Ultron, was trying to win a war before it started. Steve cleverly reminds him during the woodcut discussion: "Whenever someone tries to win a war before it starts, people die." UltronTony created Veronica in case they lost control of The Hulk (or a lullaby did not work). The Hulkbuster backup plan type of work. This willingness to plan and be prepared for the future was perhaps a fatal flaw for Ultron, but it also allowed Tony to thwart Thanos in End of Game. The glove that Tony installs on his suit to steal infinity is only this type of planning. He was reluctant to join the second fight and the defeat visions that he saw in Ultron always haunt him, but he was finally able to use that fear to defeat their most formidable enemy. It's a complete book for the character and his essential motivation.

And there are so many smaller ones Ultron configurations:
Ragnarok Heimdall first teases Ragnarok and the fact that they will lose Thor's vision before heading to a cave for more answers. Thor sees the Infinity Stones and the glove for the first time. No more bread crumbs at our final battle.
Meeting vigilantes: The "Avengers Assemble" line launched by Captain America during the final battle was put forward for the first time Ultron. An almost synonymous line for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, it's a line that comic fans have been waiting for. We cut the credits before Cape Town could say it in Ultronbut we end up receiving it End of Game.
Wakanda: In a quick scene with Ulysses Klaw, we first hear about what would prove to be the key destination of the most profitable superhero movie of all time – before End of Game. Vibranium, Andy Serkis with a tattoo of Wakandan, and the rest belongs to the story.

Captain America back with Carter: We must guess that it is no coincidence that Wanda's visions sent Captain America back to Agent Carter and the 1940s. Throughout the series, his biggest regret is not being able to share a life with her. , thus making his end as an old man "who stole the time to get a life" all the more sweet.
"Well, I'll do it myself": We meet a flashing and silent Thanos in The Avengersand we first see the Gauntlet Infinity in Thor's vision of Scarlet Witch. But it's not before UltronS we see our big bad guy in full armor – voiced by Josh Brolin – grab the glove and say, "Well, I'll do it myself."

The Avengers Facility: A small but remarkable moment. The Avengers get a new home. The Avengers compound is the base camp for the future.
# 1
Adjusted score: 88.489%
Consensus of critics: Exuberant and breathtaking, Avengers: Age of Ultron is a cumbersome but mostly satisfying suite, bringing together the heavy casting of his predecessor with some additions and a worthy enemy.
