Southern California is withering in the heat of the weekend which, according to the authorities, will be accompanied by poor air quality.
A heat advisory issued by the National Meteorological Service for much of the region is in place until Sunday evening.
Temperatures should range from the mid-1990s (35 degrees Celsius) to the 100 degrees (37.8 degrees Celsius) range in many valley and mountain regions.
The desert areas southeast of Los Angeles are subject to an excessive heat warning.
Air quality officials have issued an ozone advisory for most of the Los Angeles area, warning that heat will combine with atmospheric inversions to trap smog near the ground.
Temperatures should begin to cool by Monday.
The rest of the state is also warming up, but there is no warning or warning.
