Airman died in non-combat vehicle incident in United Arab Emirates on Friday

The Defense Ministry identified the airman who died in the United Arab Emirates on Friday as Captain Kelliann Leli, 30, from Parlin, NJ.

She died in an “unrelated combat vehicle incident,” authorities said on Saturday.

The Air Force is no longer disclosing details as his death is under investigation.

Leli was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and was assigned to the 60th Healthcare Operations Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif.

There are currently about 3,500 U.S. military personnel stationed in the United Arab Emirates, according to the Congressional Research Service.

The country is a key United States ally in countering Iran and was one of the first Gulf countries to normalize relations with Israel earlier this year.
