The body of a missing boy from Illinois aged 5 was found in a field nearly a week after his parents reported his disappearance, officials said.

Andrew "AJ" Freund was found dead Wednesday in a rural area near his home in Crystal Lake, while authorities pulled out a shovel, mattress and other items, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The police were looking for the boy for six days when he was in the Hennen Conservation Area in Woodstock.

His parents claimed that he had disappeared after putting him to bed around 9 pm. Last Wednesday, but investigators later announced that his mother was not willing to participate in the investigation.

"As of today, JoAnn Cunningham, the boy's mother, continues to not cooperate with the police," said Monday the Crystal Lake Police Department in a statement.

AJ's younger brother was placed in pre-trial detention last week as authorities investigated the case, the Chicago Tribune reported.
