A long fight until the end of the championship allowed UFC Al Iaquinta, lightweight, to benefit from a long medical suspension.

In an email to MMA Junkie, a spokesperson for the Ontario Sport Commissioner's office, which regulated UFC on ESPN + 9, said Iaquinta's term was six months, or 180 days. When asked if the suspension of Iaquinta meant that it could not be eliminated earlier by a doctor, the representative said, "I confirmed this information to the Commissioner."

Iaquinta (14-5-1 MMA, 9-4 UFC) told MMA Junkie that the commission was inaccurate.

"I can be cleared," Iaquinta said in a text message, adding that he "would have remembered that" if he had told him otherwise.

Although the Ontario Sports Commissioner's office regulated Saturday's event at Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, questions were sent through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Ontario. No details were given about the nature of the suspension of Iaquinta or any other fighter on the map. It would be very unusual for a sports commission to impose a long suspension without the possibility of obtaining a quick authorization from a doctor.

Iaquinta forward Donald Cerrone (36-11 MMA, 23-8 UFC) was suspended for 14 days following a unanimous victory.

After their fights, two other fighters were sentenced to 60-day sentences: Sergey Spivak following a loss against TKO against Walt Harris and Sarah Moras after a loss against TKO against Macy Chiasson.
