Alabama 7A State Championship: Thompson miraculously defeats Auburn

10 points in 18 seconds!

The Alabama Class 7A state championship game between Thompson and Auburn on Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa featured one of the most incredible finishes you’ve ever seen.

After returning the ball on low with 1:18 to play nine, 28–19, Thompson looked dead in the water. The turnover gave Auburn the ball over the Thompson 20-yard line, but instead of calling up a few game points and trying to score a dagger from a touchdown or get into position for a basket that would make it a two-touchdown game, Auburn entered a shotgun victory lineup. Thompson had just two timeouts left, so there would be just a few seconds on the clock once he got the ball back. As Auburn (having lost 25 yards to his knees out of the shotgun) prepared to clear the ball and the clock ticked in under 30 seconds, Thompson’s players consoled themselves on the sideline.
