Alabama won’t be playing LSU this weekend as originally planned, sources told AL.com.

LSU faced challenges to meet the SEC’s minimum 53 healthy player requirement for this weekend after players tested positive and others were excluded through contact tracing. LSU had previously postponed their game against Florida to December 12, which means that game will likely be called off entirely unless something else changes.

The SEC is losing its biggest game of the weekend in what has been a tough week for the conference. Auburn-Mississippi state has also been postponed, with several more conference games in danger of being played this weekend. It’s also a big blow for CBS which is losing a highly anticipated game it expected to make big TV audiences following a third round lead in the Masters Tournament.

“While it is unfortunate to have multiple postponements in the same week, we started the season knowing that program breaks were possible and we remained focused throughout the season on the health of everyone. world around our programs, ”said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. in a statement after AL.com broke the news. “We must remain vigilant, within our programs and in our communities, to prevent the spread of the virus and to manage the activities that contribute to these disruptions.”
