Alabama schools close after tornado damage

Several northern state schools have announced the closure of their premises Monday morning after a morning storm.

The National Weather Service reported that an isolated storm would have caused a tornado that would have followed parts of Blount, Marshall and DeKalb counties early this morning.

Damage has been reported in the Guntersville area and the weather service has also reported damage in Blount County. The National Meteorological Service in Birmingham has announced the dispatch of a team investigating the damage caused by Blount County.

Strong to strong storms will be possible throughout the state for most of the day.

Here are the schools that posted closures for Monday. This article will be updated throughout the morning as more closures are announced.

Blount County

– Blountsville Elementary School, Pennington High Schools, Susan Moore Elementary and Susan Moore High School are closed on Mondays. All other schools in Blount County follow a regular schedule.

DeKalb County

– DeKalb County Schools: Buses and morning transportation will be delayed by one hour in most localities this morning, according to the director.

Marshall County

-Marshall County Schools: The school is canceled for Douglas schools and buses will be late for other schools in the county. Absences will be excused for any student attending a Marshall County School, according to the Superintendent.
