Oh man.

Prince Ali, yes it's him, but not as you know him. The first glimpses of live-action Aladdin Remake was not impressive, but Disney then released a trailer that gave us hope. However, this last look at the big issue "Prince Ali" Will Smith makes me fondle again my goatee Jafar nonexistent. It's something.

IGN has released a new clip showing part of Smith's performance in "Prince Ali", in which Aladdin (Mena Massoud) literally paraded through the streets, surrounded by a pile of gifts and bribes, to try to capture Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) attention. He awkwardly greets the crowd of passersby clumsily, while Jasmine's best friend, Dalia (Nasim Pedrad), a character created for the film, provides useless explanations to our heroine. Yes, having a group of peacocks means that he is probably rich. Jasmine is an intelligent girl, she will have it.

Let's be clear: there was absolutely no question that Smith was like Robin Williams' original performance, and I do not think he would ever try. Williams' energy emanated from the screen in a way that could never be duplicated, and Smith has long praised the original performance. And, even though Smith's Genie does not exactly sing in his version of "Friend Like Me", one could say that he was trying to appropriate this figure.

But, this scene is a drudgery. It's worse than bad. It's annoying. The clip unfolds like a parade at Epcot World Showcase, with a decidedly non-energetic Smith, half-singing, half-talking, through what is supposed to be Aladdin's ultimate advertising campaign. It makes me less confident that the movie will not be a Disney Channel slog with some great moments (like Scott's singing).

If that is so that Disney will sell us the idea that we needed a remake of Aladdin While walking through our streets, I think it's safe to say that the fake prince's face echoes mine.

Aladdin is released on May 24th.
