So far, Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film Licorice Pizza was shrouded in mystery. The film is a period play set in the 1970s and starring Alana Haim, the youngest of the HAIM sisters. The trailer for the film was said to have aired before random screenings in Los Angeles, but now we can all see it for ourselves. Sounds great!

There is not much intrigue in the Licorice Pizza trailer, but Alana Haim definitely seems to be the protagonist of the film. Haim’s only non-music acting experience so far has been in the Documentary now! Netflix TV series and short film Lonely Island The unauthorized experiment of the Bash brothers. But Paul Thomas Anderson has directed numerous HAIM videos, the most recent of which is last year’s “Man From The Magazine” music video.

Licorice Pizza has a cast full of heavy hitters, including Tom Waits, who appears to be playing the role of a film director and definitely uses his full Tom Waits voice. The trailer also features Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, and Benny Safdie, but Alana Haim’s co-lead is Cooper Hoffman, the son of late PTA collaborator Philip Seymour Hoffman. Cooper has never been in a movie so far. (The cast of Licorice Pizza would also have included Ben Stiller, John C. Reilly, Christopher Walken, and PTA’s wife Maya Rudolph, but none of their names are in the trailer or on the poster.) will make you want to see a movie. Check it out below.

Licorice Pizza was released on 11/26 in a limited release and 12/25 nationwide.
