Authorities in South Carolina will open an investigation into the death of Alex Murdaugh’s former housekeeper, who died in a mysterious slip-and-fall accident in 2018, authorities said on Wednesday, the same day the housekeeper’s son filed a complaint against the disgraced lawyer for his alleged failure to pay damages.
“Based on a request from the Hampton County Coroner earlier today, as well as information gathered during our other ongoing investigations involving Alex Murdaugh, SLED is opening a criminal investigation into the death of Gloria Satterfield and the managing his estate, ”the South Carolina law enforcement division said in a statement.
Lawyers for Gloria Satterfield’s family said this week that no money from a settlement following her death has been received. Satterfield’s sons Tony Satterfield and Brian Harriott filed a lawsuit against Murdaugh over their mother’s death on Wednesday.
Gloria Satterfield, 57, worked as a nanny for the Murdaughs for more than two decades and was “told she was part of the Murdaugh family, the lawsuit filed in Hampton County.” In February 2018, she mysteriously fell while working in the Murdaugh house and died.
In December 2018, Murdaugh agreed to a settlement of $ 505,000 to be paid to the sons of Satterfield. The amount would be divided to cover $ 500,000 for liability and $ 5,000 for medical bills, according to the lawsuit.
To date, Tony and Brian have not received any money from claims or settlements with Murdaugh and his insurance companies following the death of their mother – Not a dime “, attorney Eric Bland claimed in the lawsuit.
Fox News has contacted Bland.
The lawsuit also named Cort Flemming, who was introduced to Satterfield and Harriott by Murdaugh to be their lawyer. Court documents indicated that Flemming was a former roommate of Murdaugh, a close friend and godfather of his 22-year-old son, Paul Murdaugh.

The probe comes amid a separate investigation into a recent shooting that injured Murdaugh, a prominent lawyer whose wife and son were murdered in a double shoot in June.
Authorities have arrested a man who allegedly conspired with Murdaugh to shoot and kill him in a bizarre plot to earn millions of dollars in life insurance for his son.
