Alex Murdaugh’s gunshot wounds aren’t self-inflicted: lawyer

An attorney for Alex Murdaugh said Thursday the gunshot wound suffered by the South Carolina legal scion was not self-inflicted.

Murdaugh had entry and exit injuries and suffered a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage when he was shot on Saturday in Varnville – despite an initial report claiming he had no “visible injuries”, his attorney Jim Griffin said, according to WIS.

Murdaugh’s shooting, apparently at the hands of an unknown gunman, made headlines three months after the unsolved double murder of his wife and 22-year-old son.

An incident report released Thursday morning raised even more questions about the incident when a box was checked indicating the victim had no “visible injuries.”

Later that day, however, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office released a corrected incident report which showed that a “yes” box was now checked for visible injuries and an explanation was added saying “Other injury serious, “said The Post and Courier.

The initial report, obtained by the newspaper, also changed a box asking if Murdaugh had consumed alcohol – it was changed from “no” to “unknown”.

No information has been published on a possible suspect.

Murdaugh, 53, had pulled into Salkehatchie Road to fix the tire when a pickup truck passed him and turned around, asking if he was having any problems with his vehicle, Griffin said, according to WCBD. Murdaugh started talking to the man inside the truck as he opened fire, Griffin reportedly said.

Griffin did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Murdaugh was able to call 911 for assistance, but was then airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., The sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Two days after the shooting, Murdaugh was kicked out of his law firm amid charges he stole $ 1 million. He also entered rehab.

These revelations were the latest twist in the saga of Murdaugh, a prominent South Carolina family who established a legal dynasty in the area.

Alex’s wife Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, were found gunned down on a homestead in June. Paul faced charges in the death of teenager Mallory Beach, who died in a boating accident that Paul allegedly drove.
