The Washington Capitals' double loss in Game 7 was hard to watch and understand.

But after the final ring and the handshakes ended, the team raised their staff and greeted the crowd. Alex Ovechkin fans applauded. He also gave his hockey stick to a little girl in the front row before leaving the ice for good.

The captain reunited the team in the defensive zone. Ovechkin lifted his stick first and the rest of the team followed. Once Ovechkin has finished applauding the followers of Caps, he seems to have kissed his wife Nastya in the lower bowl.

The cameras of NBC Sports Washington captured a girl holding Ovechkin's baton after the team left the ice.

Ovechkin thanked the staff, who had also worked overtime that night, as he was leaving Capital One Arena for the last time of the season.

TJ Oshie, who came to the match in costume and scarf after a fractured collarbone operation, also thanked the fans on Twitter.
