During the cane strangling caps in game three, Alex Ovechkin scored his own knockout when he destroyed Andrei Svechnikov in a first period bout. Svechnikov did not return to the match.

After the loss, Ovechkin started the fight.

"I hope he's fine," Ovechkin said. "You do not want to see a guy hurt himself."

"I'm not a big fighter. It's the same, "said Ovi about Svechnikov. The fight was the first total of Svechnikov and the fourth total of Ovechkin. His previous fights were against Brandon Dubinsky, Paul Gaustad and Mike Richards.

Ovechkin said that Svechnikov was the instigator. "He asked me to fight, I said," Let's go, "said Ovi.

Braden Holtby noted that the fight should have strengthened the Caps' effort but instead, "we have somehow wasted the energy he created".

As for the game, Ovechkin just wants Caps to forget it.

"We may be a little frustrated, a little too confident," said Ovechkin about the third game. "We just have to forget it and go ahead."
