Former Washington football quarterback Alex Smith was spotted in training for the Chicago Bears today. Several reports said he was there to watch, but could also be there to help rookie Justin Fields.
Smith has spent many years in the system that Bears head coach Matt Nagy is trying to implement. It appears Nagy is bringing in “blasts from the past” staff to try and brief Bears on how his attack should unfold. Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was also spotted during a Bears practice last week.
Smith experienced a career rejuvenation once he entered the Kansas City Chiefs offense. He went from a midfield quarterback to a three-time Pro Bowler in Andy Reid’s system. The Bears appear to be taking extra steps to deal well with Fields, who they hope will be their franchise quarterback.
