LOS ANGELES – Alex Trebek was applauded and received an Emmy Award for "Jeopardy!"

Trebek, who announced in March that he had advanced pancreatic cancer, said he was worried about becoming the best TV game show host.

He feared that sympathy would play a role in the vote, he said, when candidates should be judged on the merit of their work.

But Trebek recalled that he had lost last year, after undergoing major surgery for blood clots that could put his life at risk.

As it did not win him a vote of sympathy, Trebek, 78, said he could live with this honor.
