Alex Trebek, 79, is back on the set of "Jeopardy" six months after learning that he was suffering from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek's return to work occurs after several cycles of chemotherapy.

"I have undergone a lot of chemotherapy and, thankfully, it's now over," he says in a behind-the-scenes video posted Thursday afternoon. "I'm healing, and that's all I can hope for now."

"Let me tell you it's going to be a good year," Trebek adds in the video clip.

The chemotherapy was physically and emotionally painful, he admitted earlier this year, acknowledging "Good Morning America" that he was struggling to overcome episodes of depression.

"I've had kidney stones, disrupted discs, so I'm used to dealing with pain, but what I'm not used to is sudden surges of deep sadness," Robin Roberts said. "And that makes me cry."

At the end of May, nearly three months after hearing the news of his diagnosis, the fans were delighted to learn that Trebek was already "close to remission": "Some of the tumors have already decreased by more than 50%" he told People.

A month later, in June, Trebek received a standing ovation when he went on stage to perform at the NHL Awards.

The long-standing personality of television has proven to be a source of inspiration for other cancer patients around the world who are battling diseases with low survival rates. After hearing a fan whose mother is also battling pancreatic cancer, he sent a handwritten message to the post: "Karen, let me and you decide that we will both be cancer survivors, stay positive! All the best."
