About a week after his triumphant return to "Jeopardy!," Alex Trebek revealed that he was undergoing another round of chemotherapy to treat his pancreatic cancer.
Trebek, 79, said in an interview published Tuesday that his doctors thought that more chemotherapy was warranted after his "numbers had exploded" and that he had lost 12 pounds in a week.
"I was doing so well," said the beloved host at ABC News. "My numbers went to the equivalent of a normal human being not suffering from pancreatic cancer, so we were all very optimistic, and they said," Well, let's stop the chemotherapy, let's start your immunotherapy. "

But soon after, his doctors decided that Trebek needed more chemotherapy – "and that's what I'm doing," he said.

Trebek revealed in March that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and that he had undergone treatment before returning to the famous game show. He told ABC that during his first diagnosis, he was "shot on my own".
"I did not know how each of us was fallible in his own way … I sometimes talk to the public and I have tears in my eyes for no reason. I do not even bother to explain it, I just had the experience, "said Trebek," I know it's part of my identity and I'm just going on. "

He described cancer as "mysterious in more ways than one" and detailed "the excruciating pain" and "fatigue" that he feels in his fight against cancer.
On September 9, however, he returned to "Jeopardy!" for the 36th season of the show.
Trebek had previously revealed that he had cried "tears of joy" when he had learned that the treatment was working after several weeks of struggle. He noted that he thought he had a distinct advantage over the average citizen who was battling the disease.

"I have a few million people who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed at me and their prayers," Trebek said. "I told the doctors that it had to be more than just chemo, and they agreed that it could very well be an important part of that."
