Alex Trebek’s latest Jeopardy episode draws 14 million viewers as show ranks number one in viewership

Alex Trebek has proven his enduring appeal to viewers across the country as Jeopardy! came in first in the odds in his final week with the late host.

The latest episode of Trebek, which aired Friday, January 8, drew 14 million viewers, according to Deadline.

The series of episodes in early January marks the last batch the beloved host filmed shortly before his death from pancreatic cancer on November 8, 2020, at age 80.

Danger! beat all other syndicated TV shows for the week of Jan. 4 as viewers bid farewell to the longtime host.

It was the most-watched week of this season, attracting 11.1 million viewers in total, which takes into account both people who watched the episodes live and others who saw them again in the same day.

The show also earned a household rating of 6.6, an increase of 29% from the previous week.

The last time jeopardy! broke his most recent ratings in the week of April 27, 2020.

Trebek’s final Jan.8 show drew 14 million viewers and a rating of 8.1 households, making it its most popular episode since June 3, 2019.

This previous show marked the end of James Holzhauer’s long run as champion.

The Host’s Last Friday Show and three more Jeopardys! This week’s episodes completed the top five televised events, reaching just 60 Minutes 14.6 million viewers, which was boosted by his lead in football.

The Wednesday, Jan.6 episode fell to seventh among Best Episodes, as 25% of stations moved away from the show to cover the murderous storming of Capitol Hill that day by a crowd of pro-Trump insurgents.

After the death of the prolific game show host, Jeopardy! was greeted by a renewed cast of guests.

After Trebek’s death, old Jeopardy! Champion Ken Jennings began filming episodes on November 30.

Jennings has been among the main figures considered to replace Trebek, although he has avoided any public lobbying for the post.

The show’s executive producer Mike Richards said Trebek had “ mentioned a few names, but he wanted to stay out of that ” because “ no one is going to replace him, and he knew it. ”

Richards will lead the series for a few weeks after Jennings’ run to give the next hosts time to “prepare for their appearances.”

Among those replacing the late Trebek will be Mayim Bialik of The Big Bang Theory, Bill Whitaker and Katie Couric of 60 Minutes.
