The post was recorded earlier this year as part of the Thanksgiving Day episode. “Peril!” tweeted the clip Thursday morning, before the scheduled broadcast.
The beloved TV host died on November 8, less than two years after announcing he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

In the posthumous message, Trebek acknowledged the unprecedented hardship facing the nation this Thanksgiving.

“You know, despite what the United States and the rest of the world are going through right now, there is a lot to be thankful for,” Trebek said in the video.

“There are more and more people reaching out to show kindness to their neighbors,” he continued, “and that’s a good thing.”

A spokesperson for the show did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding when the episode was taped.

The message from the deceased host comes as Americans observe a Thanksgiving markedly different from years past, with a record number of coronavirus infections and nearly a quarter of a million people dying from the virus. Families across the country have been urged not to gather for the holidays in hopes of stopping the spread.

“Keep the faith,” Trebek insisted. “We are going to go through it all and we will be a better society because of it.”
