Several Fox News hosts, including Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, criticize Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in response to Monday's remark that the threat of climate change is causing "young people to ask a legitimate question: is it correct to to have children? "

Ocasio-Cortez asked the question Monday on Instagram Live.

"Our planet will be a disaster if we do not return this ship … there is a scientific consensus that the lives of children will be very difficult", Ocasio-Cortez said as she cut a sweet potato in her Bronx kitchen. "And even if you do not have children, there are always children here in the world and we have a moral obligation to let them have a better world."

For some future parents, climate change is a consideration. In a 2018 survey by The New York Times, 11% of respondents said they "do not want children or were not sure they had them" because they "do not want them" were worried about climate change "and 33% said they had fewer children than they ideally wanted because of climate change concerns. The New York Times survey, administered by Morning Consult, is based on responses from 1,858 men and women aged 20 to 45 years.

On Tuesday, Steve Hilton, host of Fox News, a former British politician, called the commentary of Ocasio-Cortez and its broader political agenda "disturbingly authoritarian, even fascist." He suggested that the New York Progressive was in a state of depression.

"Honestly, I do not know if she's doing a kind of nervous breakdown, or if all we're seeing now, is the true ugliness of her revealed ideology," said Hilton in an interview "Outnumbered " Tuesday afternoon.

Hilton and other members of the network said the 29-year-old legislator demanded that Americans stop having children and submit to "civilization suicide."

"She would be much more comfortable, frankly, in China, where this approach to politics fits well with the brutal authoritarian regime out there," Hilton said, adding that he was "really scared" by the Ocasio-Cortez speech.

"She says," Do not have children "because it will hurt our country," said Fox & Friends host Pete Hegseth on Tuesday. "So, if you do not believe in children, families and the flag, then you are indeed admitting the suicide of civilization."

Carlson, the controversial Fox News host at prime time, responded sarcastically to the Ocasio-Cortez question.

"Is it okay to keep having children?" Well, I do not know, Alexandria, you're the boss now – if you say we can not reproduce, of course not, it's your call, "he said.

They also attacked the ambitious proposal of Ocasio-Cortez to fight climate change, known as the Green New Deal, which calls for a 10-year mobilization for the decarbonization of the economy, to the implementation of a federal guarantee program for employment and universal health and housing.

Melissa Francis, another "larger" facilitator, referred to a document in which the Ocio-Cortez office had been made public, and then retracted, in which she asked for the eventual elimination of cows and planes. Ocasio-Cortez has since made it clear that she did not advocate the elimination of beef and air travel, but she hopes that one day they will become largely useless.

"So, let's say, she wants to get rid of children, planes and cows," said Francis.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to critics late Tuesday, accusing Fox's hosts of deliberately misinterpreting his policy.

"I understand the difference in opinion, but the dark distortions of the position do not help anyone," she says. tweeted. "GOP knows that our current proposals are popular, grounded, and hard to refute, so they invented hysterical versions for kids to make it easier, and I bet most have not even read the GND."
