According to a report in Point sport, Alienware, the high-performance gaming PC brand owned by Dell, has severed ties with Riot Games over the ongoing investigation into the sexual harassment of Riot CEO Nicolo Laurent and other public relations issues.
The deal, originally slated to end in January 2022, appears to have been terminated prematurely due to concerns about Riot’s public image. Earlier this year, Laurent was sued by his former executive assistant for sexual harassment. In 2019, Riot settled a sex discrimination lawsuit for $ 10 million and in 2018, Kotaku reported on Riot’s toxic and sexist work culture.
Alienware has previously sponsored all Riot League of Legends worldwide esports broadcasts, including its world tournament. Riot has since discontinued the Alienware brand.
In a statement to Point sport, Riot said negotiations with Alienware are ongoing.
“We cannot comment on our agreement with them at this time due to confidentiality obligations,” the statement said. “As we continue our discussions with them, we have removed their branding from our shows.”
