Alienware terminates partnership with Riot Games – the Esports Observer

Alienware will end its partnership with Riot Games, according to a Dot Esports report. A source told the outlet that the deal would be terminated a year earlier due to “concern over the game developer’s public image amid harassment complaints and other controversies.”

While Riot has not confirmed the deal will end, in a statement to Dot Esports the company said it has removed the Alienware brand from its shows.

Alienware was part of Riot Games’ global sponsorship portfolio for League of Legends, with activations in all four major leagues as well as world events including the world championship.

Recently, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent accused of sexual harassment and sex discrimination by his former executive assistant Sharon O’Donnel, who brought a civil action against the executive. This lawsuit followed an earlier controversy regarding corporate culture and the treatment of women following a 2018 survey by Kotaku.

Alienware is also a sponsor of Team Liquid, which participates in LCS. The company currently has naming rights agreements in place for TL’s training centers in Los Angeles and Utrecht, the Netherlands.

The Esports Watcher has reached out to Riot Games and Alienware for comment.
