Following last week’s violent insurgency on Capitol Hill by a pro-Trump mob, some companies are cutting ties with the Trump organization.
On January 6, the Capitol was locked down as thousands of Trump supporters descended on the building, causing chaos, damage and violence. At least five people have died.
In the aftermath of the riot, politicians – including House Minority Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy – have denounced the president’s responsibility for inciting violence. Leading business leaders, including Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, have also spoken out against the siege; Business Roundtable released a statement calling on the president to “end the chaos”.
Platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have decided to ban the president’s accounts. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey broke his silence on the ban last night, saying it sets a “dangerous precedent”.
In a landmark vote on Wednesday, Trump became the first president to be impeached by Congress twice. If he is found guilty by the Senate (a decision that requires a two-thirds majority), they could vote on whether to prevent him from returning to office.
But some actions have gone beyond statements: Corporations and other entities are severing financial ties with Trump and the Trump organization.
In the wake of the insurgency and impeachment, some groups formerly affiliated with the Trump organization are choosing to sever ties. The Trump organization did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Here are all the companies and entities that have so far publicly separated from the Trump organization.
