In line with industry peers, cruise ship operator Carnival (NYSE: CCL)(NYSE: CUK) announced that it is canceling all trips until the end of April, and in some places even longer than that.
Carnival has announced that it has canceled until October 31 the European itineraries of the Carnival Legend which were due to launch in May and delayed the departure date of its ship Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral, Fla., Until May 29.
Both Royal Caribbean (NYSE: RCL) and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE: NCLH) previously extended the break from their sailing program until April 30.

Cruise to nowhere
However, consumer demand for cruises continues to show strength, as Carnival noted earlier this month, when it said cumulative advance bookings for the first half of 2022 were now ahead of 2019 levels, although there was hardly any marketing or advertising.
But at least one analyst sees cruise lines not returning to sea until 2022. Barron’s cited the note to investors by analyst Patrick Scholes of Truist Securities, who said his best-case scenario was a July launch, although the fourth quarter is more likely and next year is even possible.
The carnival says as much, because it undertakes “to welcome [guests] back ASAP, but unfortunately we decided it would take a little longer. “
Passengers who had booked cruises that have now been canceled can get a full refund or credit for future travel and onboard credits.
