Four people were injured after an “explosion” at a Dunwoody apartment complex on Sunday afternoon that was allegedly caused by some sort of gas line problem, DeKalb County Fire Rescue said.

This happened at the Arrive Perimeter apartment complex located in the 2000 block of Asbury Square, less than a mile northeast of the Perimeter Shopping Center. Dunwoody Police said they were notified around 1:24 p.m. Sunday.

Four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, DeKalb County Fire Captain Jaeson Daniels said. Two other people were not immediately located, but have since been located and at 6 p.m. officials said all residents had been found.

Teams are working to assess the stability of the building and consolidate it to allow rescuers to search inside. Fire investigators said at least three apartments were destroyed in the blast and caused the building to partially collapse. Authorities are using drones to assess the damage.

A few pets inside the apartments were also reportedly saved.

Firefighters said more than 70 firefighters responded to the scene during the initial call. Crews are expected to work late into the evening saying it will be “slow”.

Atlanta Gas Light officials released a statement around 3:30 p.m. that reads:

“Atlanta Gas Light crews are on hand to assist emergency responders in investigating an incident near the 2000 block of Asbury Square in Dunwoody. We will provide more information when available.”

The official cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

All utilities in the building have been disconnected.

Dunwoody Police said Perimeter Center North was closed as part of the response.

Entrances and exits to the apartments have also been closed. Residents inside who were not affected by the incident were asked to take shelter in place.

A FOX 5 News viewer shared a video that showed the explosion caused severe structural damage to a building. Debris could be seen around the building and part of the exterior appears to have collapsed.

The Red Cross is on site to help those affected by the explosion.
